Grown in its native South Africa, it is a soothing naturally caffeine-free tea with no artificial additives or flavours. It is grown organically without the use of pesticides or herbicides.
It is certified by Ecocert and by the Organic Food Federation and is GM free. It is also available in our original standard pack which is not organic but which has still been carefully chosen for its minimal chemical intervention.
It is harvested and “cured” by hand outdoors in the sun - a true artisan country craft.
Before export, all rooibosch tea has to undergo a natural heat process making it probably the most hygienic tea in the world.
It dates back to almost 100 years ago when Benjamin Ginsberg, a young Russian from a Moscow tea family found a few shepherds and isolated farmers in the wilderness of the rugged mountains of Cape Cedarberg drinking a rough brew made from the leaves of a wild legume.
This was the extraordinary taste of Rooibosch tea. He encouraged the cultivation of the tea from wild seeds and using his knowledge of tea-culture, developed the techniques that are still used today to get the most flavour and taste from the leaves.
Eleven O’Clock’s unique and much loved packaging dates from the 1900s when the tea first went on sale in South Africa. Although modified over time, it is still very much as it looked over 80 years ago.
